The Connecticut Historical Society (CHS) and WNPR will be joining forces for a new program, Title IX: On The Court And Off, which will be held on March 12, 2009. Focusing on the controversial law which ended gender-bias and paved the way for a new generation of women athletes, the program will feature a panel discussion moderated by the host of WNPR’s Where We Live, John Dankosky. The event will take place at CHS, located at 1 Elizabeth Street in Hartford, CT. Additionally, the program will be broadcast on WNPR on Friday, March 13 at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling the Connecticut Historical Society at (860) 236-5621, ext. 238.

Admission for the program, which begins at 6:30 p.m., is $3 for CHS and WNPR members, seniors and students and $6 for non-member adults. The Connecticut Historical Society’s new exhibit, She Shoots . . . She Scores! Women’s Basketball in Connecticut, will be open prior to the program for viewing.

Title IX: On The Court And Off will feature three panelists debating the impact and viability of Title IX. Included in the discussion will be Dr. William A. Howe, Education Consultant for Multicultural Education, Title IX & Interdistrict Grants; Christine A. Baker, author of Why She Plays, The World of Women’s Basketball; and Allison Kasic, the Director of The R. Gaull Silberman Center for Collegiate Studies.
