WWL: Are You Sitting Down?
Get up!
Most of us sit in front of a desk for at least eight hours a day. Doctors tell us to get at least thirty minutes of exercise a day - but shouldn’t we be doing more? Coming up, a journey through our sedentary culture with CCSU professor Mary Collins, author of "American Idle".
She visits a hunter-gatherer site in the Midwest to understand the movement patterns of humans 10,000 years ago, explores the growing divide between the average American and the professional athlete, visits workers on factory floors, and talks with an expert on body intelligence and morality.
Collins argues that with some smart and relatively simple systemic changes in American culture, all of us could integrate movement into our daily lives and reap the social, cultural, physical and even moral benefits.
