WWL: When Divorce Turns Dangerous

One in four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime
Published: July 10, 2009 - 1:30pm

In the past several weeks Connecticut has been rocked with several high profile cases of domestic violence.

An estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year…about 1 in 4 women will be affected in their lifetimes. But often, domestic violence stays out of the news unless tragedy happens.

Today, Where We Live, we’ll look at what victims can do to stay safe - especially when leaving an abusive marriage. We’ll look at the effectiveness of protective and restraining orders – and availability of shelters. We’ll also talk with a survivor of domestic violence - and with Erika Tindill, Executive Director of the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
